When I decided to brighten up my cellar, by adding more light sockets. The wattage needed exceeded a standard light switch's rating.
But then CFL bulbs came out, and later LED bulbs. So one light switch can handle the total wattage of eight sockets, without arching or frying.
And all the bulbs can be 100w equiv.
