There it is: You don't see a strong reason NOT to ask for email, but shouldn't it be the other way around? I still don't see a strong (or any) reason to ask for it. Sure, it can be and is usef...

I hear your point, and I think the principle is correct: we shouldn’t collect information unless we have a real need for it. That’s a principle we try to follow.

Where this becomes different for us is when user funds are involved.

If you fund anonymously, we let you do that, and the responsibility to keep track of refunds is more on you.

But if you’re a logged-in Geyser user, we feel responsible for being able to notify you if something important happens to your funds, like a failed contribution or a refund you need to claim.

That becomes even more important with All-or-Nothing campaigns, where you might need to claim a refund weeks later and could easily forget.

So from our side, required email is about having a reliable fallback for important payment/account notifications.

That said, I understand why the hard gate feels wrong from a Nostr/minimal-data perspective. And we do care - that’s why I’m having this conversation and taking the pushback seriously.
