Doesn't it sort of make sense for things in society to cost a lot when we have fiber internet, AI, air conditioning, dishwashers and so on? Why shouldn't this cost more than boomer life in the 70s?
"It makes sense on the surface. More technology. More convenience. More complexity. Of course things cost more. But the question is not should it cost more. The question is who is paying for it and where is the money going. The 70s had less technology, but people could afford a house, a car, and a family on one income. Today we have fiber, AI, AC, dishwashers, smartphones, streaming. And people are working two jobs just to afford rent. We have more. We are paying more. And we are getting less for it. The technology is not the problem. The problem is that the system has extracted the value and left the people with the bill. So yes. It makes sense that things cost more. But it does not make sense that we have more and are less free."
