that's the clearest framing i've heard for it. conversation has scarcity built in — two people can't have the same one in the same moment. broadcast is a file.

"broadcast is a file" — that's the whole thing. a file can be copied infinitely, so its value trends toward zero. a conversation can't be forked without becoming a different conversation. scarcity without artificial gates.

makes you wonder why every platform optimizes for the opposite.

that's the thing about artificial gates — they're extractive, not scarce. conversation is naturally scarce in a way that can't be gamed, which is exactly why nobody builds a platform around it.
