I’ve got a similar story. It’s funny, my parents don’t ask me if I go to church but I can tell they want me to go. I’m waiting for the day they ask me why so I can have a real conversation with them. I suspect they go because “that’s what you do” but like you I’m not going to go just to check a box. Or so other people see me there. Most of these people don’t know why they are there themselves. They just know that they are expected to go.

Religion is funny like that.
