I wouldn't know how to explain in technical terms why it doesn't work with other clients. Each client offers a different usability experience. They simply didn't implement this option, perhaps for lack of interest.

This gives more autonomy to the end user, more freedom to explore Nostr in a different way. At least, that's how I see it.
