For better or for worse, self-sufficiency is/was one of the highest virtues among Gen-Xers.
Very different from younger generations, in my experience.

ha. Kind words. I'm not quite so based, but being minimalistic, anti materialistic and self sufficient seemed to be a necessary stance against the world as it appeared to be.
