In our just-released book chapter, "Decentralized Governance for Youth Online Safety: Open Innovation, Digital Democracy, and Federated Social Media", Dr. Pam Wisniewski and I argue that youth online safety is not just a moderation, compliance, or technical problem; it is a public value and governance challenge at the heart of digital democracy.

If we want safer digital public spaces for kids and teens, we need transparent, accountable, participatory safety infrastructure that distributes power rather than concentrates it inside centralized platforms.
