Many leftists wrongly assume it is the state that provides the security of a good wage by forcing businesses to comply. This is so terribly misguided.
If you look at the history of labor struggles, it was always the anarchists, the Wobblies, the IWW, who built a movement that forced the government to mediate the conflict.
Positive change never, ever comes from government. Those early anarchist pioneers and laborers had to put their bodies on the line, get shot at, get killed, and STILL refuse to back down. The Ludlow Massacre is just one example.
The answer for why businesses don't pay a good wage is simple. Nobody is forcing them to. Asking the government to intervene, is like asking the referee to win a match for you. Workers need to take matters into their own hands. But nobody dares anymore.
