We’re at a crossroads.
One path is an AI-powered panopticon, full government surveillance and the end of real freedoms.
The other is to accelerate open-source AI, widen the gap between what governments can do and what free technology can do, and quietly speed up the obsolescence of the state as we know it.
Governments in their current form cannot compete with decentralized AI or defend against it. The hacks and leaks we already see will only get worse as the tools become more accessible and capable. Be ready - everything governments know about you will eventually leak. All of this will only underscore how unprepared and incapable both governments and the monopolies they protect really are.
The transition will be chaotic, maybe even violent. What comes after it can be a more decentralized, market-driven society that actually values freedom instead of restricting it.
We have to accept that we cannot simply uninvent this technology. It is here and it will stay. It will shift power one more time. The same was true of the printing press, the steam engine, the telegraph, the internet, and most recently Bitcoin.
AI will change our lives whether we like it or not. The only things we can control are how well we adapt and whether we steer it toward freedom or toward control.
I wish for the former.
