For many people the issues with banks seem minor or are still abstract, whereas the fear of messing something up in self-custody is very real.

I think that once you've gone far enough down the rabbit hole, you'll just use this crisis to get better at self custody, but for a lot of people it will reinforce their belief that it's just too dangerous. ☹️
