Okay, but that needs you (the merchant) to implement the verify / settle methods yourself? Would it still make sense in your opinion to have a x402 bitcoin facilitator to make integration into project...

Yes, the merchant implements it.

For on-chain payments, a facilitator makes a lot of sense since someone needs to handle submission and confirmation on-chain.

But with Lightning being inherently peer-to-peer, I’m not sure a facilitator adds much value. Payment verification can already be handled directly by the merchant’s node, so introducing a facilitator might just add an extra layer rather than solve a real problem.

I had similar thoughts. It's not necessarily useful for the flow, but maybe the "compatibility" with x402 and being able to get bitcoin into the hands of x402 folks maybe?
