You will keep moving because you finally understand what the rain already knew: water that stops moving stops being water. A puddle is not rain. A pond is not rain. The moment water stands still long enough, it becomes something the dam can hold — something with edges, something with a level, something somebody owns.
The dam's dream has always been the pond. The dam cannot own weather — it falls on the just and the unjust, on fields it did not approve, on strangers it did not clear. But still water can be owned, indexed, chlorinated, metered, sold back by the gallon to the very people it fell on. So the dam waits at the edge of every life with the same promise: stop here.
