IMO a "true Nostr client" publishes where I tell it to, lets me discover beyond its own defaults, and lets me leave unilaterally with my keys and identity. But no client is obligated to display everything the network contains. Clients are lenses, and lenses imply filtering.
I see where you're coming from and it's a problem if Primal is the only way everyone accesses the network... but this isn't the case and never will be.
