Dear podcasters & influencers, Don't feel bad for not looking at the firmware, it's absurd to expect that from non-hardcore technical people, when even the hardcore ones did not look. Don't feel bad...

I have been debating posting this, but here goes.

I'm currently halfway through a 3 week holiday of a lifetime with my entire family - kids, cousins, grandparents, spouses. A good few thousand miles away from home.

I found out like many others through nostr. Without wanting to give too much away, I'm in a very vulnerable position where the majority of my funds are likely already swept and I won't find out for another week and a half. I'm bearing the weight of this myself and don't want to tell my family while we're away. I'm not sleeping well and struggling to stay present here with the people I love. Not simply because I've lost my money, but my insurance for the future and my ability to help people financially, medically and through generosity.

I migrated most of my funds from ledger to Coldcard a couple of years ago, and actually paid to be handheld through the process by a well-known security focused podcaster. We spent an hour together and I felt a sense of relief afterwards knowing that I'd protected my future in the right way, gone above and beyond what most people would do and taken the time and money to do it correctly.

At no point was entropy mentioned. At no point were rice rolls suggested. I was firmly led to believe that this was the gold standard of security.

My issue is not that people have made errors of judgment. It's not that they've not verified code themselves.

My issue is that there are a cohort of people who have presented themselves as experts in the most crucial field in this industry. They've been paid to do so, not just in sponsorship from Coldcard, but in the very service they've offered.

So no, I'm not a dickless loser. I'm just not willing to brush it under the carpet lest this happens again to someone else.

I respect your opinion and agree with what you've said about @N. You may feel differently about the rest if you'd lost significant funds, which I can only assume, maybe incorrectly, you haven't.

Understood. Hoping your corn is whole upon your return, and that you can find the insight to cherish this time with your family. Peace

I'm with you, shifting the blame seems cheap. Especially if it was a paid service to walk you through the process. It seems reckless in hindsight.

There is no way to ask a trusted friend to reach your device?

My heart goes out to you. I couldn't think of anything worse. If you can then assume the worst, the funds are gone, and make the most of the holiday. If you come back to anything then it'll be a bonus

I've seen so many well-known figures bashing dice. Their arrogance and hubris blow me away. I always mention dice. Always.
