I'm convinced that working through how computation actually works is beneficial, and my kids put it into practice by developing Minecraft mods. Also, with omarchy they use AI to configure their systems and develop plugins which also fosters their creativity. I'm genuinely impressed with their setup and their handling of config files in nvim on the terminal. And there is no single rule/best practice. My oldest prefers to prompt and take it from there, my youngest prefers to code and only let the AI do the tedious, boring stuff.
