Bill Mollison said "The tragic reality is that very few sustainable systems are designed or applied by those who hold power and the reason is obvious and simple: to let people arrange their own food, energy, and shelter is to lose economic and political control over them."
I would argue that food, energy, and shelter are basic human rights that ALL creatures are entitled to. We have been taught to be disgusted by those who do not "work" for a living, to be wary of people who are unhoused, and to look down upon people who use government assistance to access food as if these things were atrocious. What is atrocious to me is that every human on Earth is not automatically entitled to have their basic survival needs met the moment they are born.
The whole system of capitalism is designed for endless extraction of your energy, of resources, of money. It is not designed to be sustainable because endless growth is not sustainable.
