We need to hope in a mining revolution, where everyday objects can easily be plugged to mine at a fair cost. Solo mining lottery or many mini conglomerate of miner friends could also help.
In the end it's all about incentives.. if Bitcoin Core is/was captured is because they see better incentives in something else than what bitcoin used as money without third parties or States.
