Short term. Network effects, the current speed / UX that centralized platforms offer, and (unfortunately) more addictive designs.

The answers I get when I invite people are 1) their network isn't here, 2) they don't understand Bitcoin. I think this is short term, and the best think I can think of to fix it is to build bridges to other services like X or Blue sky, much like was done with the Fediverse and Mastodon.

I believe it is mostly a UX issue. Selecting a client, creating an account, understanding nsec/npub, ... Not to mention the interactions with Bitcoin/LN. It's a lot to digest and manage.
