Gm nostriches, watching “I like me” the story of John Candy last night, pretty interesting, dare I say “heart warming” in places, excuse me while I 🤮.
But what was the lesson I’m taking from it, from half way through?
“I said, you’ve got a good steady job, you’ll likely get a promotion in a few years and you get a company car in the deal. I don’t think that comedy route is the right option”
From the people who had his best interests at heart, they were parroting exactly what they had been taught from the Prussian origin education system (cheers @nprofile1q... ). Do the classes, get the qualification, become a mindless cog the machine (able to pay the taxes); some people can’t see anything else.
As my eyes begin to open, I see those risks, I see struggling to make rent, being turned down for a loan, yeah, maybe uncomfortable and yeah it could all go to shit, but think about the alternative;
Waking up every Monday morning, dreading the monotony of the 200th Monday that was the same as every other, with the next 200 stretching out ahead of you, no variation, no interest, no risk, no joy.
To quote Orwell, “a man really dies when his brain stops working”, if you do the same job everyday without thinking, are you really alive?
Reject the easy path, embraced the hard path (🫡🙌 @nprofile1q... ), maybe look after your weight and moderate your booze, but JC had more issues he was dealing with that most (getting to that part of the movie), but just go be a bit more pirate @nprofile1q... !!
I’m not saying I’m doing everything I could, but I’m working hard, doing things my easy path doesn’t need to know about to make my life intellectually more interesting, just need to fashion a little more space in the routine to just get a little more fun and risk into the mix.
Fucking around with some AI last night and with some rather random prompts got this spat out and feeling it sort of hits a spot.
