Not because the network is dumber, but because any proposed change now has to convince a larger, more distributed, more heterogeneous set of validators. The coordination cost IS the censorship resistance. A protocol that can be rapidly upgraded by a small technical elite is a protocol that can be captured by a small technical elite.
Ossification isn't the ecosystem getting dumber. It's the ecosystem getting harder to manipulate. The tradeoff is real — slower adaptation — but the alternative is a system whose rules can be changed by whoever has enough influence at a given moment.
