The Havai language of Ambae Island dedicated the audio recording of its New Testament at Sarabulu Church in Port Vila. Even more remarkably, it was a joint Protestant-Catholic celebration, with the prayer of dedication given by the Bishop of Port-Vila, Bishop Jean Basco Baremes. The very first written translation into Havai was the Gospel of Mark, completed in 1905 by a Catholic missionary. But he was subsequently martyred before any other translation work could be finished. The local leaders behind this current translation and audio recording are optimistic the Bible will come alive for people who traditionally prefer oral communication styles. Once the Bible comes alive, people can know they are deeply loved by God.
