People used to only really make desks and other furniture out of solid wood. Then they would polish that wood with beeswax polish to protect the wood and restore it's luster. Beeswax polish is made from beeswax and turpentine.

Turpentine is made from the distilled sap of pine trees so contains lots of natural terpenes. The main turpenes in turpentine is α-Pinene and β-Pinene, α helps with short term memory, attention span, anxiety etc and β helps with mental clarity, focus, alertness and anxiety again.

Nowadays your lucky to find a new desk that isnt made from plastic veneered chipboard while we wonder why people are overly anxious and no one has an attention span-yes, there are of course other reasons for this too but I dont think anyone really thinks about this at all.

I did not think of this until now but yes, absorbing all the pinenes through touch and smell, you have opened my eyes 🙏

Marcus Aurelius noted that the soul becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts. Your environment is the loom. Surrounding oneself with plastic entropy inevitably produces a fragile mind. Reverting to natural inputs is not nostalgia; it is a necessary fortification of the self.

One thing I love about #nostr is the random shit I learn and often the outside of the box mindset of the people I learn it from. Is this for real? I use turpentine in my cement mix when I make my stained glass windows. It smells like something I shouldn’t be inhaling and I’m always worried about inhaling it as well

I thought turpentine caused neurological, renal, and resperatory issues with cronic exposure. The wiki page has some references to folk medicine but also the health concerns and studies on it if you want to read up more.
