What don't you like about mint? I run debian trixie on my laptops and it just works. Mint is debian under the hood, which is why I asked. For desktops I use gnome or xcfe, but there are various options. Once you get it set up, you should be good to go and most any issue can be quickly solved with a decent LLM troubleshooting session. I've set up a few bargain thinkpads for non- or less-technical friends and generally the only friction is getting them to update the packages regularly.
