@nprofile1q...> everyone calls it age verification for unknown reasons
I wonder why. Maybe because that's what the contributors themselves call it
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/40954 , maybe because that's what the relevant law says?
We'll see how OPTIONAL this field would de facto be in a distros that decides to comply with California’s law soon enough, and I’m not holding out much hope.
We do have the `realName` field, and `location` too, yes. Does setting specific values in these fields determine which content the user is allowed to access? Were these fields added following some law? (I actually don't know the answer to that) Cuz that is the exact intended use case for age field, so there might be a slight difference here after all.
Nah, for the time being I'm joining the sweaty haters club there. FUCK that optional field and everything it stands for. It achieves nothing of a value for the user, but it is absolutely yet another foot-in-the-door, and it's about time to start sawing off those annoying legs with a fucking chainsaw before we get to the actual verification or the "optional fields" for ethnicity, race, or whatever the fuck.
Regardless of what the next step is, it would be preferable not to take even the first one. Let’s not make life easier for bureaucrats, they'll take advantage of that, oh they sure will.
