Allow me to propose an alternative explanation to all of the recent push for AI regulation. Let's put on our tinfoil hats:
All of the labs are realizing now that there are limits to this "AI" thing....
In the meantime China will push out even more capable and powerful open-weights models until they're on par... On hardware they can build themselves.
