I don't see how the freedom to think implies anyone else has any responsibility toward me and my rights. Natural selection doesn't care about you or your rights, dignity, or intelligence.

God isn't just an "external authority". He's the creator and sustainer of life — and the one who, after all human means fail, implements justice for the oppressed. His opinion is what matters, and — good news — he loves you.
