Can't falling fertility rates be easily explains between birth control pills and abortions?

Well thats part of it, but easily? No.
Not having a choise sure forces the issue, but not wanting to make the choise in the first place (not wanting children) or not be given a choise (rising singles number) are things that may in part be derivative of pill and abortion, but not completely.
There is more at play, one big thing turns out is the sensitivity of women for social status, and what "society" tells them provides status. And their sensitivity for social status itself is just a proxy for the need to feel secure.
Which also opens up this economic can of worms that you don't "need" a bunch of children, first because a bunch of them might not survive, but also because its not your kids that directly take care of you in your old age.
And probably a bunch of other stuff as well.....modernity was a mistake, billions must die
