In order to have people coming together, we would need dependency. But we got to a point in history thay nobody depends on anyone else. People only get together due to intention, and eventually intention fades away and people migrate to something else.
There is no social stability and not even stability in prople's souls. Average time Americans spend in a religion is 7 years.
This order (or disorder) of things van only cause destruction in society and the individuals. Every day the effort that must be put to keep some order in life grows exponentially... Intentional communities are poping up and they will be great shelters, but as you say, they will coexist with the destructive forces and they will be poor and fragile... If an intentional group could be a champion, their existence would have so much gravitas that would attract everything else towards them, but apart from a miracle, this will not happen...
