What is the Genesis Block? 🧱💎
The Genesis Block (also known as Block 0) is the first-ever block of the Bitcoin blockchain, mined by Satoshi Nakamoto on January 3, 2009.
Satoshi embedded a hidden headline in the block’s coinbase parameter: "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks." This serves as Bitcoin’s "Birth Certificate" and a permanent reminder of why it was created: as a response to centralized financial failure.
Just days later, on January 12, 2009, Satoshi sent the first-ever Bitcoin transaction (10 BTC) to cypherpunk Hal Finney.
Unlike almost every other digital asset, Satoshi didn't sell coins to VCs or "pre-mine" for personal gain. Every satoshi had to be earned through Proof of Work from day one.
