Apple shipped unified memory (originally 2010) because it was the correct architecture for mobile devices.

Then they scaled it up to desktop-class machines because:
-They already had it.
-It was more power-efficient.
-It removed a massive system bottleneck (memory transfer between pools)

They had no idea about local AI and sleepwalked into a huge advantage.

Now watch them take credit for it lol.
