Your organs would still work (for another period of time).
The air we breathe ... what if that was truly consciousness?
Then that would make sense, going unconscious.
Therefore, we are truly connected to the consciousness of the universe, to experience it in a unique fragment of a vessel of being human.
The answer of "why" is both limited and limitless, and only a matter of perception of the said vessels.
