A cyberattack copied personal information belonging to 1.3 million people with unpaid court fees, fines, or restitution payments for traffic and criminal violations in Arizona, with records reaching back 30 years. The attackers also took nearly 30,000 active and inactive orders of protection and 150,000 reports from a foster-care board that advises on cases involving allegedly unfit parents.
Court technology staff detected and stopped the attack on a backup server about two hours after discovering it on September 24, and affected people have been notified. Arizona officials say there is no evidence the stolen data has been used or shared. The incident remains under investigation; no records were altered or deleted, and court cases were not affected or delayed.
