8200 doesn’t belong to the Shin Bet (Shabak, kind of the equivalent of the FBI), it belongs to the IDF intelligence forces (the military). And Ron Atzmon’s LinkedIn page says he served his mandatory service in the Israeli navy. And a 5-years service in 8200 isn’t so special for Israeli nerds who don’t want to go to combat positions, so they agree to sign for two more years in addition to the mandatory 3 years service.
Sure there are soldiers in 8200 that participate in amazing espionage operations, but others just do DevOps or fix computers/antennas. The 8200 unit is huge, it has more men than the entire Israeli navy…
