Agree property taxes are unjust. Property taxes where I live have increased substantially since 2020 because real estate values have. It hurts retirees the most. Our elderly, the most vulnerable among us. There are elderly people who have lived on the shore of flathead lake their entire lives who are being forced to sell because their homes are suddenly being valued at $2-3 million. Sure they'll make a massive profit if they sell, but they don't want to sell. They like where they live, their homes were affordable when they bought them 30-40 years ago, and they didn't ask for this massive capital gain on their real estate nor should they be penalized for it in taxes now that they're too old to work.
