Same situation here.

After my second child was born, It took over two years, many wrongful charges, revisions, phone calls, and being wrongfully sent to collections because apparently after certain period of time, the hospital's billing department automatically sends people to the collection agencies.

When I reminded then that they could never figure out the actual bill to begin with, they admitted not having enough smart controlls and procedures to prevent that, which creates more chaos, paperwork, and frustration.

It’s actually better to wait until they send them to collections, because you can usually negotiate for a settled amount, and it doesn’t go onto your credit report as a derogatory.
