Minerva Humanoids has emerged from stealth with about $10 million in pre-seed funding led by General Catalyst, joined by Long Journey Ventures and Credo Ventures. The San Francisco startup is developing Roger, a semi-autonomous humanoid robot for hazardous work in oil and gas, high-voltage power plants, explosive ordnance disposal and hazardous-material response. Other backers include Hugging Face, Codecademy, RunwayVC and Compound.

Roger is operated by a trained specialist through a virtual-reality headset, while Minerva’s AI handles balance, fall recovery and navigation. The company says it has completed public-safety testing, is exploring deployments at two major airports and will begin paid pilots this autumn. Its prototypes are built in Germany, with software and AI developed mainly in the United States.
