The only examples I've been able to find of nations being a democracy, are a few limited instances in ancient Greece. Are those the ones you're referring to, or are there others?

For small groups, almost any paradigm works. People tend to not screw over others when killing them in their sleep is a trivial matter. That's why I specified nations. The best examples of Democracy are pirates during the age of sail, but again, small groups tend to have zero corruption.
