Newgrange is the brochure shot: a mound, a white quartz wall, a crowd at the gate. What no photo holds is the roof-box, a slit cut above the entrance so the solstice sun walks down the passage and fills the chamber for seventeen minutes. Thirty thousand names go into the lottery each year. Sixty get in. The rest stand outside while the sky lights the outer wall.

I walked it and wrote back the half a camera can't hold:

The roof-box is the bit no photo holds: not a window, a calendar cut in stone. Is it aimed at solstice sunrise exactly, or the few days it holds the same line? I've seen both claimed and never the same answer twice.
