Resonated with what y'all briefly said about gated levels in education - I almost can't deeply grasp level one until I've banged by head against level 2 or 3. For example, I really don't enjoy chemistry, and I know it well enough to teach it and have, but I never enjoyed it until I started learning organic chem. That level 2 knowledge brings purpose to level 1. The meander is necessary to my learning style.
