Got my first traffic ticket in China, the endless AI cameras are all knowing and all seeing, you can’t dodge them. Was fined 100 RMB (~$14) for crossing a white line from the straight turn lane into the right turn lane. The local government was kind enough to text me about it

They don't need the 14 but this create a state of constant fear. Like animals in a circus.
RogueHashrate · 7w
Glad to see they cared enough to text you about it. Anything for safety 😂 In reality this is so stupid but at least the fine is cheap. Surprised it not like $100+

Christ, I’d be so broke in China.
GregAsks · 7w
You broke the law because you turned from the lane for going straight ahead. Don't try to manipulate the situation by saying that you crossed some white line...

Victimless crimes being punished by a surveillance state is dystopian af.

Wow fascinating want to learn more about every day life in China

We just get the ticket in the mail with image of what you did so there are no questions

How long after did it take for you to be notified?

This is scary. Because what you did is legal in the USA. You were switching lanes and turning. This makes me not want to go to China
HappyClouds · 7w
Wish they had this in America 🤣 Fuck cars. Rebuild our cities to let us use our legs to walk and bike instead of forcing us to buy expensive vehicles. It’s a massive tax on the working class.

driving in china is a free-for-all, they probably need this
MyOldKyHodl · 7w
Seems like a miserable way to live.
nostrich · 7w
Would you rather have the process be the punishment, or just get the fine and get it over with?
magnum · 7w
That's cheap compared to the fines in Australia.
nostrich · 7w
ahh. this is going to suck, but i eventually want to drive in China anyway
YeKanEast · 7w
On one hand, that's cheaper than America or other places in the world, on the other hand, I'd be fucking pissed.
davesoma · 7w
I went to China and saw people who were happy and relaxed, which I did not see in the US. https://dscompounding.com/2025/12/04/the-utopian-present-of-china/

I mean, from an automated rules based system perspective this is incredibly smooth and efficient. If the rules are something you want followed, having a high chance of being caught and a low punishment is better than the opposite. You remove any police bias, but also discretion. I have mixed feeli...
