For the same reason you would hold a stock, you’re betting that in the future your investment will increase in value, netting you more profit than if you were to spend it right now.

As risks go, I would say the chance of you losing more from investing in BTC rather than simply doing nothing and watching your current form of currency bottom out, are pretty slim.
