@nprofile1q... I tried both, and OPNsense was a bit too complex for me. I struggled to make it work the way I wanted even though my use case was regular home use. I guess it's more secure and customizable when used by people who know a lot about setting up zones and rules and so on. And the community was off-putting...
OpenWRT is much more similar to a regular off the shelf router's software. I still feel like it's reasonably secure, but more approachable. Just my opinion of course.
