“Turtles all the way down” is infinite regress, every explanation rests on another.

The ego does the same in reverse, building subtler maps of “me” through time, even in trying to escape itself.

Ego all the way up.

But the map is inside the territory, and it can never contain the whole of it. Suffering begins when we defend the map against reality.

Awareness is the willingness to let the map change.
