My #bike chain got replaced today. It was new in February when I replaced the whole drive train.
So even though I wiped and oiled it every week, that chain was worth only about 4-5 months... Maybe 20...

I have 2 waxed (9 sp) chains that I swap between. I'm just coming up to 10,000 km on the bike computer, but there were some more km before it.
The chain checker is currently not showing any noticeable wear.
Prior to learning about waxing, I was eating through the chains on my old 7-speed, because of the salty water and sandy soil of the lakes I ride around.
Wearing out chains, and cassettes, and wheel bearings, and socks (from the oily chain mess stains) and oil, and rags.
Now with wax, it's just check wheel bearings and decrease if needed.
Waxed chain stays clean and lasts.
