5 years? I tend to think adoption may happen quicker than people think as economic pressure on citizens increases and bitcoin maintains its value.
On second thought though, I may be a bit too optimistic. It could be more like 20 years. I think it depends on people realizing that they have the power. I think of the movie a bugs life and how it's so representative of the current times humanity is in.
The grasshoppers are stealing all our food and many think they are powerless to stand up and say "enough!" So recognizing we have the power to choose what money we want to use is imperative.
Humans tend to unfortunately need suffering to recognize the problem. Perhaps it's biological, like how we have pain responses in our body when we get hurt.
As they say it takes a ton of heat and pressure to make a diamond from coal.
