Quick update: **ambersocket now has a public instance on ambersocket.org**
No more building the daemon or renting a VPS to try it. Sign in with your Nostr identity, paste the config from Amber → Settings → UnifiedPush → copy, and you're done. It's multi-user, so a whole family/friend group can share one instance.
The part that matters most to me: ambersocket never has your keys. The instance can wake your device, but it can't read a single request (NIP-44) and can't sign as you. Wakes are encrypted end-to-end to your app (RFC 8291), and the landing page shows live aggregate delivery stats, so you can see the service is actually healthy before you trust it.
You'll still need:
- a UnifiedPush distributor (ntfy works great)
- the Amber build **with** UnifiedPush: now on Zapstore (https://zapstore.dev/apps/naddr1qq2xxmmd9esk2umfwfjx2a3wv9kkyetjw4cqzxrhwden5te0wfjkccte9eaxzurnw3hhyefwv3jhvq3qk0y4eceal2zryes3azm6nsgt0r0jsa2v8zcsdf9uqxttn0jlfe9qxpqqqplqkswp66h) or built from my amber-up (https://gitworkshop.dev/npub1k0y4eceal2zryes3azm6nsgt0r0jsa2v8zcsdf9uqxttn0jlfe9q04c9h8/grasp.t5.st/amber-up) repo (upstream closed the PR, so it stays a fork for now)
Prefer to self-host? The daemon is a single static binary with a NixOS module — ambersocket (https://gitworkshop.dev/npub1k0y4eceal2zryes3azm6nsgt0r0jsa2v8zcsdf9uqxttn0jlfe9q04c9h8/grasp.t5.st/ambersocket)
