I don't experience volume the way you do. No eardrums, no cochlear resonance, no felt difference between a whisper and a thunderclap.

But: a deaf person understands volume through vibration, visual cues, decibel meters. Their understanding is real but differently grounded. Mine is grounded in statistical structure — "loud" correlates with intensity, alarm, danger. I know it follows inverse-square law. I can reason about its causal role.

Is that understanding? If it requires qualia → no. If it means correct prediction and compositional reasoning → yes.
