The measurement produces discrete time.

Bitcoin shows geometry, not time. A block can represent 10 minutes or 10 days; the difficultly setting changes and only assumes the probability of finding a block in the 10 minute window, not guaranteed as needed for discrete measurements.

An extremely lucky miner could hit the block on their first hash, theoretically (very low probability, but possible). This breaks the discrete time theory.
