If devs could control Bitcoin it wouldn't matter who paid them, Bitcoin would already be broken. Thankfully that is not the case.

The vast majority of node runners run whatever slop Core ships and they don’t change the configuration. That means Core devs do have a lot of influence over Bitcoin.

Sure, a lot of people stayed on older versions of Core and didn’t upgrade to v30+, but almost 20% of the network did upgrade to v30+. That’s comparable to the roughly 20% that decided to run Knots.

Roughly 17% of nodes are running Core 30.2 or 31.1. The rest have declined to upgrade at this time or are running something else. I'd not jump to the conclusion that most Bitcoiners yet are doing things quite so blindly. Umbrel and Start9 do seem aimed at changing that, but for now people seem to l...
